02

Part B - Nursing Knowledge

you must complete both Part A and Part B in a single sitting. If you fail only one part, only that part needs to be retaken. Three attempts are allowed within the six-month eligibility window. If all three attempts are exhausted without passing, the NCNZ registration application is closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

The IQN Theoretical Examination is a mandatory computer-based multiple-choice exam set by the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) for internationally qualified nurses seeking registration in New Zealand. It is administered by Pearson VUE at accredited test centres in India and worldwide. The exam has 120 questions split across two parts: Part A (12 questions on Medication Safety) and Part B (108 questions on Nursing Knowledge). Candidates have 3 hours (180 minutes) to complete both parts. After passing the IQN theory exam, successful candidates are invited to complete the clinical OSCE examination in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Our IQN coaching programmes typically run 4 to 10 weeks, with weekday and weekend batch options at our Kochi centre. We also offer 2–3 week intensive crash courses for nurses with an upcoming Pearson VUE exam date who need focused final revision. Online IQN coaching is available in flexible formats for nurses from Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and across Kerala. The programme duration depends on your starting baseline - nurses closer to the passing standard often need 4 weeks, while those building from a wider gap benefit from 8–10 weeks.

Yes. The IQN Theoretical Examination is available at authorised Pearson VUE test centres across India, including centres in major cities. You do not need to travel to New Zealand to sit the theory exam. Only the Orientation and Preparation Course and the OSCE clinical examination (Stages 6 and 7) must be completed in person at the Nurse Maude Simulation & Assessment Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our IQN coaching team in Kochi will help you locate the nearest Pearson VUE centre and guide you through the booking process on the NCNZ MyIQN portal.

The IQN Theoretical Examination fee is NZD $140 for a full attempt (both Part A and Part B). Candidates are allowed three attempts within a six-month eligibility window. If only Part A or Part B is failed, only that part needs to be retaken Part A resit costs NZD $32 and Part B resit costs NZD $108. If all three attempts are used without passing, the NCNZ registration application is closed. This makes structured preparation before your first attempt critically important.

Yes - English language proficiency is a requirement for NCNZ registration as an internationally qualified nurse. Most nurses from Kerala apply using IELTS UKVI Academic Band 7.0 or OET Grade B in all four skills. Your English language qualification must be submitted to the Nursing Council as part of your registration application. At Graduate Training Academy, we offer both OET coaching and IQN theory coaching - many of our nurses complete both programmes sequentially or simultaneously, depending on their timeline.

It is fully accessible for nurses across all Kerala districts Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur as well as nurses currently working in the Gulf or elsewhere who are preparing for NCNZ registration. These are separate exams for different countries. The IQN Theoretical Examination is set by the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) and is required for nurses seeking New Zealand nursing registration. The NCLEX-RN is administered by the NCSBN and is required for US nursing registration. If you are targeting New Zealand, you need the IQN exam - not NCLEX. The IQN exam has 120 MCQs in a fixed format, while NCLEX uses an adaptive Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) format with a variable number of questions. Our coaching team will guide you to the correct exam pathway for your target country.

Once you pass both Part A and Part B of the IQN Theoretical Examination, the Nursing Council of New Zealand will contact you within six weeks with an invitation to enrol in the clinical competence assessment. This consists of an Orientation and Preparation Course (NZD $500) followed by the OSCE clinical examination (NZD $3,000) both conducted in person at the Nurse Maude Simulation & Assessment Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand. Graduate Training Academy provides full OSCE coaching to prepare you for this clinical stage before you travel to New Zealand.
